John Rutherford (Palm Beach, Florida); raced at Nassau; 19S6 Daytona Beach, achieved 161 mph; 1974 sold to Hon Alan Clark (later UK Govt Defense Minister); registered WPG 4; sold to Tony Charnock; used as road car; 1976 sold to Nick Mason (of Pink Floyd); "having an exceptionally low mileage, the car required virtually no restoration other than cleaning and repainting"; now registered XKD 1 and Dark Blue; used by owner for Pomeroy Trophy; 1977 Retrospective GP, Montreux, raced by owner; featured in article by Mel Nichols in Car; 1992 featured in series of Shell advertisements; mileage stated as "19,492 and correct"; 1992 Ulster Trophy, Dundrod Retrospective, John Watson, 1st; Nick Mason (London, UK).

    The car is mentioned in the book "Jaguar D Type & XKSS" by Graham Robson as registered XKD 1, short nose with fin. Originally exported to the USA but now owned by Englishman Nick Mason (ca 1983).

    xkd516 was owned by jack broudy of new york prior to be being shipped to the uk. my broudy purchased xkd516 after a tip from dick merrit about xkd516 which was at a dealer in lexington, mass. mr broudy purchased xkd516 and shipped it to the uk . it was sold to alan clark thru an intermediary.
